Speco Cloud – Bandwidth & Camera Health Check Best Practices
This is a review of camera best practices setup for Speco Cloud Cameras.
📶 1. Bandwidth Considerations for Speco Cloud Installations
Before deploying Speco IP cameras using Speco Cloud, it's essential to assess the site's internet upload bandwidth. This ensures smooth live viewing, reliable uploads, and minimal buffering.
Recommended Upload Bandwidth (Per Camera)
Camera Resolution | Frame Rate | Estimated Upload Requirement |
---|---|---|
1080p (2MP) | 15 FPS | 1.5 – 2.5 Mbps |
4MP | 15 FPS | 2.5 – 4.5 Mbps |
4K (8MP) | 15 FPS | 5 – 8 Mbps |
💡 These figures assume H.264 compression and moderate scene motion. High-motion scenes or H.265 may require more.
How to Perform a Bandwidth Test
-
Go to SpeedTest.net from a device on the same network.
-
Run the test before installing cameras to get an accurate reading.
-
Ensure upload buffer space is reserved for other systems (VoIP, POS, etc.).
💡 Pro Tip:
If bandwidth is limited:
-
Lower the bitrate, resolution, or frame rate in the camera settings:
Login to Camera > Config > Image/Video/Audio > Bitrate / Frame Rate
🛠️ 2. Camera Health Check (CHC) in Speco Cloud
CHC is a proactive feature that monitors camera performance and connectivity in real time.
What Does CHC Monitor?
-
Offline camera status
-
Failed clip uploads
-
Missing or delayed motion events
How to Enable CHC
-
Log in to Speco Cloud.
-
Navigate to:
Sites > Cameras > [Select Camera]
-
Click Edit.
-
Click Notification Settings.
-
Under Health, select Camera Health Check.
-
Click Save.
🔔 Types of Notifications
-
"[Camera Name] is Offline"
The camera is not functioning properly (e.g., failed live view, missing events). -
"[Camera Name] is Online"
The camera has returned to normal operation. -
"[Camera Name] is Unstable"
Detected in continuous recording mode when the stream is frequently dropping.
Common Causes of CHC Alerts
-
Camera Connection Failure: Due to power or internet issues
-
Stream Unstable/Failed: Frequent disconnects in continuous streaming
-
HTTP/RTSP Port Issues: Ports used by the camera are closed or unreachable
-
Incorrect Login Credentials: Username or password changed
-
High Bitrate: Bitrate exceeds system capacity (especially for generic cameras)
-
Analysis Limit Reached: AI processing threshold exceeded
💡 Best Practice: Keep bitrate < 1280 kbps and frame rate ≤ 15 FPS (10 FPS ideal for cloud uploads).
🕓 CHC History
-
Each camera timeline includes a history of CHC events.
-
Review detailed past alerts for every device via the dashboard.
👥 Who Manages Alerts?
Dealers can configure alert routing through:
-
Email notifications
-
In-app alerts on the Speco Cloud dashboard
-
SMS or push notifications (if set up)
