Soft Black Lines on IP camera's image - Speco Blue

Some users report black lines slowly transitioning across a cameras live image. This is due to external factors. Here is how to resolve this issue.

Depending on the camera's environment, black lines may appear over the cameras image and cause a varying degree of distortion. More than likely, what is causing this issue are the lights around the camera. Fluorescent lights are the main cause of the black lines, but other type of lights can cause this to occur as well. Fluorescent lights essentially operate by flickering on and off very, very fast. Approximately 100 to 120 times per second. This can impact the camera's sensors, which ends up creating the distorted image in question.

Notice the three soft black lines going across the image.

To resolve this issue...

  • First, access the Settings menu of the Speco Blue Recorder.

  • Once the Settings menu appears, please select Image Settings under Camera settings.

  • Once the Image Settings page appears, select the camera in question and select the Advanced button. More settings for the camera will appear.
    • Scroll down and find an option called Anti-Flicker.
      • Please set Anti-Flicker to 50Hz or 60Hz.

If the fluorescent light has a flicker rate of 100Hz, set Anti-Flicker to 50Hz.

If the fluorescent light has a flicker rate of 120Hz, set Anti-Flicker to 60Hz.

As this information is not expected to be known, it is recommended to try both 50Hz and 60Hz options. While both options will improve the camera's image, one will look better than the other depending on the specifications of the fluorescent light.

  • Once Anti-Flicker is set, it should automatically change. The change should be seen from the preview image.
  • Go to the Live screen and verify the pictures quality.

Notice the black lines are gone from the image once Anti-Flicker has been turned on.
