How to edit Sub-Stream Recording Parameters on a Speco Blue Recorder

A substream on a network video recorder (NVR) is a lower quality video stream. Substream allows you to reduce streaming quality for live or remote viewing while maintaining higher quality on the mainstream for HDD recording and storage.


  • Go to Settings > Record.



  • Click on Record Substream.



  • Flip the Mode to Manual to make adjustments
    • Encoding Type: H.265 is most efficient
    • Resolution: by default will be close to maximum, dial back as needed
    • FPS: starts at 30, recommended is 15
    • Max Bitrate: lower if needed to save on bandwidth and recording time
