General Troubleshooting - Routers

This is a quick check list of things to note when looking to troubleshoot issues on your local router.

When setting up security systems, a properly configured router ensures smooth communication between cameras, recorders, and remote access applications. Here are some general troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check Physical Connections - Ensure all network cables are securely connected and the router is powered on.
  2. Verify IP Addressing - Confirm that devices are receiving valid IP addresses from the router.
  3. Disable AP Isolation - Some routers block device communication; check the router settings.
  4. Restart Network Devices - Power cycle the modem, router, and security devices.
  5. Check for Conflicting IP Addresses - Assign static IPs where necessary.
  6. Review Router Logs - Check logs for blocked connections or errors.
  7. Update Router Firmware - Ensure the router is running the latest firmware for best performance.

If additional configuration is needed, consult the router’s manual or contact the network administrator.
