General Troubleshooting - Firewalls
This is a quick check list of things to note when looking to troubleshoot firewalls on your local router.
Firewalls help protect networks but may block security systems if not configured correctly. Here are steps to ensure proper communication:
- Identify Required Ports - Check which ports your security system uses for communication.
- Allow Specific Applications - If your firewall supports application filtering, allow security system software.
- Create Firewall Rules:
- Permit inbound and outbound traffic on necessary ports.
- Restrict access to authorized devices only.
- Disable Strict Filtering (If Necessary) - Some firewalls have high-security modes that block unknown traffic.
- Test Connectivity - Ensure the security system can transmit data without issues.
If issues persist, check firewall logs for blocked connections. If additional configuration is needed, consult the firewall manual or contact the IT administrator.
